ABOUT RECRUITMENT PORTAL
DEFINITION OF WORK INTEGRATED LEARNING
Work Integrated Learning (WIL) is the umbrella term which refers to any of the following modes of Learning Experiences
a) WORK BASED WORK INTEGRATED LEARNING
The definition of Work Integrated Learning(WIL) is a period of learning that takes place at an Employer's workstation which is Monitored and Assessed jointly by a Lecturer from the University or TVET College and an Industry Mentor.
Work Based Work Integrated Learning is the most commonly understood form of Work Integrated Learning
The duration of Work Integrated Learning at Universities ranges from 3 to 12 months
Work Integrated Learning for the TVET Colleges programmes are as follows:
The National N Diploma -18 to 24 Months
The National Certificate: Vocational (NVC) - 1 to 10 Weeks
Salient features of Work Integrated Learning:
Industry Mentors and Employer Workstations are quality assured by the University of College to ensure compliance with the Work Integrated Learning standards
The Students are required to produce a Portfolio of Evidence at the end of their training
Work Integrated Learning is a compulsory for the awarding of the formal qualification
b) PROJECT BASED LEARNING
Projects that contribute to the curriculum which are assigned by Universities that has an Industrial based application, are referred to as Project Based Learning. This mode of Work Integrated Learning involves a collaboration between the University Academics and Industry Mentors to Supervise and Assess the Projects. Project Based Learning is Credit bearing towards the awarding of a formal Qualification.
c) SIMULATED LEARNING
This mode of Work Integrated Learning involves the student being exposed to a simulated environment that closely resembles the real-world work experience.
d) LEARNINGSHIPS
These are Qualifications that are quality assured by the Quality Council for Trade and Occupations (QCTO). The Duration of Learnerships is generally one year. The Learnerships comprises of 70% Theory and 30% Work Integrated Learning at an Employer's workspace.
e) INTERNSHIPS
These are periods of Work Experienced that Learners engaged with, on completion of a Professional Degree or Diploma. Internship are generally quality assured by the respective Professional Bodies.
f) APPRENTICESHIPS
An Apprenticeship involves and Employer, a Learning Institution and an Learner. The Apprentice is employed by an Employer and serves a period of between 3 to 5 years completing a formal Theory and Work Based Learning Program. On completion of an Apprenticeship the Apprentice under goes a Trade Test to qualify as a Journeyman or and Artisan

The One year Work Integrated Learning is mandatory to practice as a Technician. The National Certificate: Vocational is a one-year qualification in various Vocational Fields of study. A National Certificate Vocational is issued upon successful completion after each year of study. The Learners completing NVC2, 3 or 4 could exit at any level enter the workplace or complete and Apprenticeship or Learnership
